Life 365 | Week 4

Welcome to week 4 of Life 365! It’s been so fun to chronicle this month of January and I can’t wait to keep documenting this fabulous year.

This week was all about coffee and tea! I swear, I took so many photos of my coffee cup this week. I did get this adorable class mug recently too.

20 // Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. day and Paul and I had a free day to spend together. We enjoyed a long lunch at Cheesecake Factory, delicious.

21 // I love my new mug and I started off my school week with a nice cup of cafe verona dark roast.

22 // I enjoyed this delicious dessert tea from a local specialty tea and spice shop. There is something so special about the aroma of tea on a cold morning.

23 // I sported my Kate Spade “Mrs” necklace all week. It was a gift from my amazing husband and I like to show it off.

24 // I had to admire the coffee display at Starbucks. Have you tried the new VIA lattes? They are quite yummy for an instant packet.

25 // I wore some green on Saturday. I am admiring the amazing things my body is doing. {Although I don’t much appreciate the kicks directly into the bladder}.

26 // THE BEST PRESENT EVER. Paulie got me an early “push present”. I’ve dreamed of having an espresso maker at home and this Nespresso Pixie is my new favorite kitchen appliance. SWOON.

I clearly have a drink preference. Pretty much the only thing that beats my love of coffee and tea is just plain water.

I am looking forward to checking out your photos from this past week! Happy Monday everyone!

It’s that time again! Week 4 of the Life365 Linkup!

image

For this project, I want capture a particular moment in each day that means something to me. I want to commemorate each day with something good, something that no matter how insignificant it may seem to others, it meant something to me.

For week three, I want to see your pictures from January 20-26, one for each day. Next week and every week thereafter, you should be able to capture a total of seven pictures, one for each day throughout the week. My hope is that by the end of the year, we can look back on these daily pictures and find that there was at least something good in each and every day.

Spread the word and grab a button! I’d love to see what means the most to everyone!

This month, I have Samantha from Substance and Soul as my co-host. She is such a sweet girl and I am glad to have gotten to know her over the past few months!

Get out of your own way

It’s Friday, I’m in love! Happy Friday my lovelies. This afternoon I have a big Oral Medicine exam and I’ve spent the week studying. It’s quite a dense subject, so wish me luck.

Speaking of exams and studying, it got me to thinking about the kind of stress we students {and everyone else} endure. We all experience stress from the day-to-day details and to-do lists, from interpersonal relationships, and from our long-term career and life goals. WHEW, that’s enough to make anyone’s head explode.

I think there are two different philosophies when it comes to experiencing stress. There are those individuals who believe that stress is completely pathological and has no place in our lives. Then there are those who believe that experiencing a certain level of stress is a way for people to motivate themselves to accomplish tasks and goals. I tend to subscribe to the latter.

However, I do believe that there are different types of stress and only certain types are ultimately helpful. There is the kind of stress that stems from being passionate about something and wanting to live up to one’s own potential. There is the type of stress caused by things completely out of our control. And there is the type of stress caused by needless worrying of a more obsessive nature. {I’m sure there are more types, but these tend to be the types I experience.}

Back in July, I wrote about my anxiety about starting clinic and dealing with a whole new patient care and administrative environment. I felt overwhelmed and I had to remind myself to breathe and relax. I was definitely experiencing the kind of stress associated with a new and unknown experience and my desire to do well in my new role as student dentist.

What I have found is that by identifying the stressor and acknowledging its existence, I was able move forward with this new experience and get out of my own way. While there are new hurdles each day, I’ve learned so much from my time in clinic so far and I’ve become much more confident in my skills and my ability to care for my patients. Sometimes it just takes a little time and self-reflection to realize that stress plays an important role in our growth {an odd concept, I know}.

I am experiencing anxiety and stress about my new and approaching role as a mother, but I know that I have an innate ability within myself and a wonderful support system to embrace this new role. It is daunting but also exciting. I cannot wait to be a mother.

By getting out of our own way, we can accomplish our goals. Sometimes it is difficult to see the forrest from the tress, but we need to remember that when we are passionate about something, we will find a way. Find a way to breathe through the stress and form your own happiness equation for when things get really tough.

You are smart and successful in everything you do as long as you just get out of your way.

What are your views on the role of stress in our lives? Do you believe it has a purpose?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cheesecake Factory date

My friend Lena gave me some great advice: go on a lot of dates before the baby comes. AMEN.

Paul and I hit up one of my favorite restaurants this past weekend. We always order way more food than necessary and enjoy our time together. I ordered my favorite pasta and of course, a slice of delicious raspberry lemon cream cheesecake.

I love to spend alone time with Paul and I am so grateful that we were able to steal away a few moments and get around town for a lovely lunch date.

Life 365 | Week 3

Oh hello! It’s week 3 of Life 365!

We had another gorgeous week in San Francisco but I really hope that we get some rain in California soon {although it’s not looking likely}. This week we hit another pregnancy milestone - 6 months! Time is sure flying.

I’m really enjoying this series - it allows me to reflect back on each week and remember not only the big and meaningful moments, but the small {and often forgotten} ones too.

13 // I was in clinic bright and early Monday morning for my ER rotation. Whew, I wish I would have known then how busy it would get.

14 // 6 months pregnant?! I am in shock that we are only 3 months away from welcoming our little bundle of joy into the world.

15 // I’ve been stretching my pre-pregnancy blouses to their limits, but I loved this little bow above my belly and bright colors are so fun for pregnancy.

16 // I live in a part of the city surrounded by apartment complexes so I really appreciate this little park next to my shuttle stop. I miss green things!

17 // I had 4 hours of oral medicine lecture on Friday afternoon, this sugary goodness got me through it.

18 // My mother is a fantastic artist. I’m so proud of her for starting up her painting again over the past couple of years. She is just so talented.

19 // We had Josh and Natalie over for the game yesterday. I absolutely love having them over. We are already planning for our Superbowl party!

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Life 365 | Week 2

Welcome back for week 2 of Life365! I got back to my normal routine this past week and it was very calming. As much as I love vacation, travel, and visiting family, it’s nice to be back to the comfort of my own home. This past week, I was able to put the Christmas decorations away, restock the fridge and pantry, and dust the whole apartment so I felt somewhat productive. Unfortunately, our birthing class that we were supposed to start tonight was canceled so we had to quickly sign up for another one in February. Oh well, what can you do?

Like I mentioned last week, one of my goals this year is to take at least one photo every day to document this wonderful life of mine. Join Brittney and me for week 2 of Life365 for this week’s photo-per-day link up!

WEEK 2 | JANUARY 6-12

6 // I had another OB/GYN appointment on Monday and good news, I do not have gestational diabetes or anemia! Although, I am pretty fed up with getting poked and prodded all the time.

7 // We went to Trader Joe’s to restock our fridge {I LOVE that place}. I am always mesmerized by the cheese section. Each week, I treat myself to one fancy cheese - this week was a Dubliner white cheddar.

8 // I made my favorite mushroom and gorgonzola pasta. I also paired it with a delicious garlic sourdough bread. I’ve been enjoying leftovers all week too.

9 // Feeling glamorous in my new maternity shirt. I’m loving the comfort of wearing a few real maternity items. This was right before we headed out for an In-N-Out and Krispy Kreme date to celebrate another dental school milestone

10 // Paul and I had another happy hour {at home} date night. I had vanilla coke with grenadine, not quite as fun as the real stuff, but it was still tasty. We paired our “cocktails” with homemade pizza sticks. Mmmm!

11 // Saturday, we made and decorated sugar cookies. I’m pretty sure this was the first time Paul has ever used a rolling pin.

12 // I am a tea enthusiast and I’m a stickler for properly brewing tea {meaning correct water temperature and brewing time}. I had a delicious jasmine green tea Sunday morning which paired nicely with my french toast and grapefruit.

This week I’m on dental ER rotation so who knows what this week has in store. I hope you all have a great week!
