Growing up in Southern California {just outside of Los Angeles}, I had always disliked the gloomy, cold, and misty weather. I felt like the sunshine and clear skies were owed to me. Whenever the gloom struck, I couldn’t help but get angry at it {ridiculous, I know}.
When I first moved to San Francisco, I was told that gloom was the norm and I had better get used to it and learn to love it. “Yeah, okay” I said, “that’s not going to happen.” My dad loves the gloom and has been singing its praises for years and I always thought he was nuts!
But, of course, I have truly grown to love the gloom, life is funny like that. You were right dad! {Oddly, yesterday was the first gloomy day of June and I have actually missed it}.
Here are a few things that I love about June gloom:
The way the light scatters through the fog and the clouds.
The dewy feeling on your skin when you walk outside in the morning.
The excuse to drink hot tea and foamy lattes all day long.
Layering beautiful sweaters, coats, and scarves.
It goes very well with comfort food.
It makes you slow down, listen, and relax.
What do you love about June gloom?
P.S. My mom is on her way to San Francisco! Yay!
P.P.S. My DSLR camera finally arrived and I’m a little overwhelmed by shooting in manual. If you have any good beginner tutorials, pass them along.
