Looks like we've made it

I have a feeling this will be a brain dump post.

Everyone! I did it! I survived my first week away from Emma. Thank goodness it was a short week, otherwise I may have ended up curled up in the corner gnawing my nails off (yikes, I’m dark today). Monday, I had my D4 orientation. First of all, I cannot believe I had my last, first day of school. This is my last year of dental school. As of mid 2015, I will officially be a Dentist. If you could see me right now, I’m doing my almost-a-dentist-last-year-of-dental-school dance. Cha, cha, cha!

Although I will be staying on a couple extra months to make up the time for maternity leave, I am looking at the home stretch of this whole DDS thing. CRAZY. I’m in 20th grade now guys. Of course, orientation was just a big ol’, “Let’s give them 2108390 items of information in one day, ready, set, go!” Why, thank you for that.

It was incredibly hard to leave Emma on Monday morning. Just call me Sophie. Choosing to return to school to finish my degree is the best decision for my family and myself in the long run, but man oh man, it was hard to get out the door. I felt bad for the person sitting next to me on the bus that had to watch this blubbery mess of a human being.

I got right back into the swing of things and saw a few patients this week. It’s kind of like riding a bike, I didn’t forget how to do dentistry and be in the clinic. It’s just a different animal trying to find time to pump. But I think I’ve got it figured out for the most part. Hopefully I don’t scare my colleagues with my milk and pumping supplies in our communal fridge. Sorry ya’ll.

Emma and I were practicing our selfies. She told me I was a weirdo. Please don’t run away from home.

Thank GOD ALMIGHTY for my momma. She drove up on Sunday and has been the key to my sanity, remember the whole curled up in the corner thing, well she’s helped me avoid that. She’s been sending me many photos, videos, and updates. Why yes, I would love to know how many times she’s pooped today! (completely serious on that one) Emma sure does love her Mamaw.

Last night, Grace and Brian invited us to Brian’s company’s suite at AT&T Park to watch the Giants game. Although they aren’t my team, (GO DODGERS!) we were thrilled to get to spend the evening in a suite watching America’s sport (‘MERICA). Paul and I enjoyed our evening of frivolity - first date night away from the baby!

I could get used to this.

I don’t have any patients today, but I’m going to go to school for a little while to catch up on some scheduling and paperwork business.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July! Say what?! I love this holiday. I become exponentially more patriotic. Where did I leave my pet bald eagle again? Paul, Emma, my mother, and I are going to take a train ride through the Santa Cruz mountains down to the boardwalk for some good old fashioned family time and 4th of July festivities. Oh beautiful

PSST, I am working on an incredible online collaboration with some amazing women, stay tuned for the deets! (Did I just say deets? What year is this anyway?)

What are your 4th of July plans? (If they don’t include singing patriotic songs at the top of your lungs, why even bother?) Have a happy and safe weekend!
