Motherhood

Hello third trimester

Today officially marks the beginning of my third trimester. First of all, HOLY COW and second of all, where does the time go?

Now that we are on this side of 2014 I am starting to get even more excited/nervous/anxious/happy. Lately, I’ve had a strong urge to nest. I always thought people exaggerated it, but seriously, all I want to do is reorganize things, move furniture, buy baby furniture, and get our apartment ready for all the baby stuff. When I get into a cleaning rampage, nothing can stop me. To satisfy one of my many freak-outs, Paul and I went online and bought a multi-purpose changing table with drawers that will fit nicely in a compact apartment. I hope it arrives soon!

I am so excited that we have entered the third trimester. My second trimester was pretty amazing. We started to feel the baby kick, my body started changing, and Paul and I have really bonded as partners and future parents. I am starting to feel a bit more claustrophobic lately. I also feel quite uncomfortable at times, but that seems to be a general theme of the third trimester {goodbye honeymoon period}.

We have our first baby shower next weekend and I am so excited! I’m loving this growing baby bump too.

I like big bumps and I cannot lie.

Here is another pregnancy list update:

HOW FAR ALONG? 28 weeks {third trimester!!}

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN: 9-10 pounds last I checked

MATERNITY CLOTHES? Just bought maternity jeans and I am wearing my few maternity pieces all the time {so much more comfortable than just leaving my zipper undone}. I need to order a couple nursing bras soon too.

STRETCH MARKS? None yet.

SLEEP: It’s hard to get comfortable and I’m pretty much waking up every night to go to the bathroom. Oy vey.

MISS ANYTHING? I’ve been missing wine {like always} but lately I’ve been missing the ability to easily get off the couch or out of bed without Paul’s help and a fair amount of grunting.

MOVEMENT: This girl is on the move! And she just LOVES to kick my bladder, back, and other organs. There have been quite a few kicks that have taken my breath away but I know they are only going to get stronger.

FOOD CRAVINGS: Ice cream, bacon, fruit preserves, espresso.

ANYTHING MAKING YOU QUEASY OR SICK? Motion. I’ve been easily nauseated by rough bus drivers. I also need to stop reading on the shuttle because that makes me even queasier.

SEX: Still a girl! I have another ultrasound at 31 weeks so we will confirm of course.

SYMPTOMS: Heart burn, backache, round ligament pain, pelvic pain, bladder ache, some foot swelling, forgetfulness, and uncontrollable crying.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT? Stretched out to the limit, I finally had to take out my belly button ring.

WEDDING RINGS ON OR OFF? On.

HAPPY OR MOODY MOST OF THE TIME: Happy but I burst out crying for no reason.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: Our first baby shower on Feb. 8th! Our good friends here in SF are throwing it for us and I am so looking forward to it. We are having a co-ed party which I love!

Pregnancy belly {6 months}

Can you believe it? 6 months! Cut to me riffling through my calendars, baby books, and online check-lists freaking out that there are only 3 months left. {I also switched over my pregnancy counting to calendar months after I saw this article on Pinterest that helps converts pregnancy weeks to months. Takes the guess work out of it!}

I’m almost out of the second trimester and we are soon leaving the “honeymoon” phase of pregnancy and my body can definitely feel it. Even so, I have absolutely loved this past month.

Baby is the size of a head of lettuce and between 1.5 to 2.2 lbs.

Most of my pre-pregnancy clothes are definitely getting stretched to their limits. I love my few maternity items and will probably invest in a few more soon.

I am noticing a little more junk in my trunk lately, but Paul says I’m looking beautiful {thanks honey}.

This girl is done with the cute little fluttery movements and is on to roundhouse kicks and dancing the YMCA in there. She makes me gasp sometimes. Paul and I love watching my belly move. It’s nuts!

It’s officially started – the surprise belly rubs from people. One minute I’m walking through the clinic, the next I have a couple of hands on my belly. Hello interested person, are you aware that you are invading my personal space? Thankfully, most people ask before touching and I am much more inclined to say that’s A-OKAY.

Every night I’m at war with my pillows and blankets trying to get comfortable. I have always slept with 5+ pillows but I may need to invest in one of those long maternity-specific pillows.

I have quite a few items on my maternity to-do list which causes me much anxiety and insomnia. I guess I’m being trained for sleep deprivation. HA.

Even with the discomforts, this has been my favorite month of pregnancy so far. I hope this next month is just as wonderful.

Go check out my pregnancy belly photos for all months here.

We will be welcoming our precious little one into the world in only 3 months! Woah!

Pregnancy update | 25 Weeks

Wee! I’m 25 weeks pregnant today! I will do an official belly photo at the 6 calendar month mark {instead of lunar months}. I cannot believe how fast these past weeks have gone by – I think it’s because of all the holiday hoopla and traveling.

And it’s official, I am sick. I guess I couldn’t get away with traveling on germ-ridden airplanes and avoid it. I am trying to kick the symptoms as quickly as possible because I have a busy rest of the week. Oh well, what can you do?

This little baby has been moving so much! It’s amazing to just sit and watch my belly move in waves. She’s clearly getting stronger because sometimes her kicks take my breath away and hunch me over.

I had another appointment yesterday and I did the glucose screening test - man that stuff is disgusting. I tried to explain to Paul that it’s like having Sprite syrup straight without the carbonated water. My fundal height is measuring right on track but my weight gain is below average. My doc says I need to keep eating those high-calorie healthy snacks! The heart beat is nice and strong too. I haven’t noticed any Braxton-Hicks yet so that’s good {although I’m not entirely sure what to look out for, so who really knows}.

Here is another pregnancy list update.

HOW FAR ALONG? 25 weeks

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN: 9-10 pounds {My doc is telling me to keep eating!}

MATERNITY CLOTHES? Just a few pieces so far. I am living in my long-sleeved cotton tees from Gap and I just bought a new blouse and two pairs of over-the-belly leggings. I may also need a simple maternity jacket, it’s getting harder to zip my current ones.

STRETCH MARKS? No new ones so far {just those from way back when}.

SLEEP: It’s getting tougher to sleep through the night. Heart burn is killing me!

MISS ANYTHING? As always, I’m missing wine. I’m also missing the ability to have a small cup of coffee without getting jittery.

MOVEMENT: A ton of it! She’s a little acrobat in there. Sweet baby, please avoid kicking my lower back.

FOOD CRAVINGS: Pastries, ice cream, carrot juice, and cheese.

ANYTHING MAKING YOU QUEASY OR SICK? Not right now, thank God. Although the heart burn sucks.

SEX: A sweet little girl.

SYMPTOMS: Heart burn, lower back/sciatica pain, dry skin, frequent bathroom trips, leg cramps, some feet swelling, and pelvic pressure.

BELLY BUTTON IN OR OUT? Still in, but I have a feeling it’s about to pop out. It’s stretched out and I may have to take out my belly button ring soon.

WEDDING RINGS ON OR OFF? On. And I tried on some pretty and delicate bands to add to my set once the baby comes.

HAPPY OR MOODY MOST OF THE TIME: Happy but easily upset when my body is uncomfortable.

LOOKING FORWARD TO:HypnoBirthing class starting next Monday! And baby shower #1 in February and #2 in March.

My shoes started out light gray and my socks were white, that’s all mud right there.

Only 15{ish} weeks to go!

Pregnancy Belly {5 months}

WOAH, WE’RE HALFWAY THERE!

This week I’m officially 20 weeks pregnant! I cannot believe that I am halfway through my pregnancy. I feel like it has gone by both incredibly fast and miserably slow. {I attribute the slow feeling to the first trimester when I was throwing up every. single. day.}

{By the way, I am using lunar months of four weeks rather than calendar months.}

I finally feel like my belly has popped out. I broke down and bought real maternity pants and by george, they are comfortable. I see the point now.

My baby is the length of a small banana {crown-to-toe} and is moving like crazy! This one is going to be kicking the heck out of me very soon. It’s pretty dang beautiful.

I have been craving sweet foods. Thankfully, any sweet food will do. I equally crave dessert and fruit. Really crisp grapes are a staple here lately {and so are doughnuts}.

It’s been a bit harder to sleep. It takes me a while to get comfortable and I have been waking up in the middle of the night to adjust my position, go to the bathroom, or chug water because of my heart burn. A cocoon of pillows helps. I’m pretty sure that I kick Paul every night while trying to get comfortable. Sorry honey!

Although I am by no means huge, it’s harder for me to bend over or get off the couch without a symphony of grunting. So attractive.

Thankfully I haven’t experienced any swelling yet. Fingers crossed that that symptom stays away for a while.

My nails and hair are growing like weeds. I’ve never had a problem growing my nails and hair so now it’s like they are on speed.

My energy levels are pretty high compared to my first trimester. I am able to do things in the evenings, instead of just pass out on the couch with one shoe off.

Every night, Paul and I talk to my bump. We love this baby so much.

Check out my pregnancy belly from months 1-4 here

I love this time of year and having this precious baby on the way makes it that much sweeter.
