Life 365 | Week 16

Another week has passed and it is amazing how slowly time goes by when you are waiting for something special. I am getting quite impatient over here! Here are last week’s Life 365 photos.

14 :: Paul and I really love Panera for a quick and tasty meal. I could eat their baguettes every day.

15 :: I’m an adult, doctoral candidate, and soon-to-be mom, yet I regularly eat sugary cereal for dinner.

16 :: It has been absolutely gorgeous in the city.

17 :: We are officially one of THOSE couples. Please don’t egg my car.

18 :: Paul’s sweet coworkers bought some adorable clothes for baby girl. I also LOVE the book they got for her hehe.

19 :: I was absolutely CRAVING snow crab legs so we went to get some. I finished 1 and ½ pounds of crab all by myself, woah.

20 :: Happy Easter from the giant Easter egg. My belly dropped about a week ago and even maternity shirts are having a hard time covering this bowling ball.

Tomorrow is officially my due date. Tick tock, tick tock.

The importance of dating your husband

I mentioned yesterday that Paul and I went on a lunch date this past weekend. It got me to thinking about why we still go on dates and how important this is to our marriage. If you are married or have been in a longterm relationship, you know it is easy to get stuck in a routine and forget to check in with one another.

Now, I’m not big on offering “marriage advice”. I feel like each relationship is unique and what works for one couple may not work for another so I can only write from my perspective. A little while back, I wrote about the secrets to our happy marriage and I left out an important one: date night.

To me, these are a few reasons why it is important to date your husband.

1 // TO CHECK IN. When I am able to spend some quality alone time with my husband, we are able to check in with one another. We put down the distractions and catch up on each other’s days, as well as all of our hopes, dreams, and worries. Sitting across from one another at a restaurant or taking a long walk is a perfect way to check in and share some honest communication.

2 // REKINDLE ROMANCE. Whether your date night is at home curled up with a movie or getting dressed to the nines and going out to a fancy dinner, date nights bring back some romance and intimacy that sometimes gets lost in our busy schedules. Dim lights, sparkly eyes, and leaned-in quiet conversations always remind me of why I fell in love with my husband.

3 // FOR EXPLORATION. I love having a partner in crime with whom I can go on adventures. Date night is a perfect time to try a new restaurant or take a drive up the coast. I get to explore my personal boundaries and try new things while having a trusted partner by my side.

4 // TO CELEBRATE. I love to celebrate everything. Birthdays, let’s party! Work promotion, woo hoo! They had my favorite cheese at Trader Joe’s, break out the party juice! But really, dates are perfect ways to celebrate the beauty that is life. No matter what the occasion, Paul and I always start our meals with a little toast to celebrate what is going on in our lives and commemorate the day. His wins are my wins and my triumphs are his triumphs.

Free birthday brownie sundae, don’t mind if I do!

Today, I am 39 weeks pregnant and we will be welcoming in our new little family member any day now. Date nights will be fewer and farther between with a new infant in our lives, but checking in and rekindling the intimacy will be more important than ever. We plan on taking up babysitting offers so we can steal away a few quiet moments together.

Do you still date your husband or partner? What are are your favorite date nights?

Life 365 | Week 15

I slept in until 9am today! Woah, who am I? I guess it doesn’t really count as sleeping in when I was tossing and turning all night and did not get very good sleep at all. Eh, you win some, you lose some. We are still just plugging along in pregnancy land, but I’m trying to remember that she will come when she’s ready. Oy vey. Any who, here are last week’s Life 365 photos.

7 :: Okay, I made the best bagel sandwich last week. Delicious!

8 :: Beautiful Spring blooms everywhere!

9 :: Wednesday was the start of the Mission Bay Farmer’s Market near my apartment. I stumbled across this phenomenal granola. I’ve been eating it straight from the bag.

10 :: I got new glasses! Wee! These Michael Kors beauties are navy and are really comfortable.

11 :: More Spring blooms! These gorgeous trees line a walkway by my apartment. I was just blown away.

12 :: Paul and I went on a lunch date on Saturday, more on that later.

13 :: We went on a walk in our favorite neighborhood yesterday before grabbing some lunch and we saw this beautiful little hummingbird right next to us!

I have another OB/GYN appointment tomorrow so we will see if anything has progressed. Pre-labor contractions have picked up quite a bit, so hopefully they transition to full-blown active labor any day now!

Happy Monday!

At the moment

If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that I am getting quite impatient to meet my little one. I am trying to stay zen about waiting, but if you’ve ever been pregnant, you know how hard these last weeks are. I am trying to find things to keep myself busy and distracted while we play the waiting game.

This is what I am up to at the moment.

EATING :: Homemade maple granola that I bought at the farmer’s market. I’ve died and gone to granola heaven.

DRINKING :: Tons of ice water. My heart burn is crazy and one of the only things that helps is extremely cold water.

READING :: The May issue of Parents magazine and The Happiest Baby On The Block.

ANTICIPATING :: The coming of my sweet girl. I cannot wait to meet her!

LOVING :: All the adorable baby clothes. My brother and sister-in-law just gave us this adorable lace dress.

WEARING :: The same pair of yoga pants and whatever shirt fits over this humongous belly!

ORGANIZING :: All the baby stuff {over and over again}.

WATCHING :: Will and Grace DVDs. A classic.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
