Baby Emma | Three Months

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Emma’s three months update! Get ready to be punched in the uterus.

So I like to call this the deer in the headlights look. You’d think I was making funny faces at her behind the camera or bribing her with buckets of ice cream or something. I swear, she will be doing something pretty dang adorable then the second I pull out my camera, she’ll be all stoic. I swear she’s like, “Be cool, be cool.”

Either she’s putting her fists up to punch me or waving her hands in the air like she just don’t care. You be the judge.

Month three was pretty amazing! She started to laugh and has been rolling around like nobody’s business. I swear, soon she’ll be dancing on broadway. Okay, just kidding, she needs to be at least 10 months for that.

So no doctor’s appointment this month but we did have a bit of an allergy scare. We thought she might have a cow’s milk allergy which she was getting through my breast milk. My first thoughts were, I’LL CUT OUT MILK, I’LL CUT OFF MY OWN ARM, ANYTHINGGGGG. My second thoughts were, Oh sweet Jesus, does that mean I have to cut out cheese and ice cream…? But we were just being silly geese. She’s completely fine. Whew! Cut to me swimming in that vat of fondue.

So Miss Emma over here was more interested in playing with her blocks than posing next to them. It went a little something like this…

Well that is just great Emma. Get it together!

This girl seems itching to get on the move. She has been sticking her butt up in the air while on her stomach, supporting her body on her legs, but keeps her face firmly planted on the floor. Then she’ll just pivot around on her head. PIVOT! PIVOT! (Quick, what’s that from?)

She’s also somewhat of an escape artist. We regularly find her out of her swaddle after a nap. And I’m not just talking about the baby burrito wrap, I’m talking about the specially designed velcro contraptions meant to keep baby’s arms down. We may need to use some bungee cord soon. (MOM, I am just kidding, we will not use bungee cord.)

And here’s another fun one (and by fun, I mean disgusting). She regularly rolls from back to belly, whines that she’s on her belly, spits up, then proceeds to smoosh her face all up in it. GROSS EMMA. I guess she’s preparing for freshman year in college.

Emma also had a great month with her grandmas. My mom and Paul’s mom were each here for a couple of weeks. They were gracious enough to send me photo updates and when she last ate and pooped. What peaches. They really helped me ease into the transition of going back to school. If it weren’t for them, I would have been curled up on the clinic floor bawling my eyes out. I’ll leave that to the dental-phobic patients.

I wonder what month four will bring! As always, check us out on Instagram. And here are all her monthly updates here

Citrus Lane Box :: July

We are loving our Citrus Lane boxes yo. This was our third box so far and it just keeps getting better. Mr. Seahorse from June’s box is now a family favorite. I think Emma likes him more than me! July’s box did not disappoint. Emma was expecting a salami and a wine of the month, but I told her that’s a different kind of box.

Box Contents:

ISSIE SECURITY BLANKET from ADEN + ANAIS This blanket is made of gentle, breathable muslin, which allows air to flow through the blanket. The silky soft trim is a baby favorite too.

PACK N GO MINI MOBILE from TINY LOVE This portable mobile is perfect because it clips to just about anything. It has plenty of stimulating toys and has basic patterns and colors to encourage tracking, batting, and grasping.

FEEDING SPOON from OOGAA These soft, silicone spoons are specifically designed for beginning eaters. They have easy to grip handles and a soft and textured underside. They are BPA free and dishwasher, microwave, and sterilizer safe.

PUR~PROTECT SPF 30 from PUR~LISSE This light-weight, nourishing moisturizer for mom or dad has SPF 30. You can use it daily and is great for those summer months.

We only subscribed for 6 months total, but based on what we’ve been getting I may have to extend it.

Emma just loves her new security blanket. Hopefully the blanket doesn’t mind all the spit.

Around here

Yesterday morning I was making eggs and Emma was hanging out next to the kitchen. She was rolling around and playing with her toys. It was one of those beautifully quiet mornings. So I pulled out my camera, sat on the floor with my breakfast, and just watched my little pumpkin butt do her thing.

Adorable blanket from our dear friend, Nicolle.

Mr. Seahorse and Reginald meet everybody, everybody meet Mr. Seahorse and Reginald.

Oh hey, crazy camera lady.

Quick! Everyone back in their places! Mom’s watching!

Mom, stop crying.

That’s one happy baby.

That’s right. I roll. How you doin’?

Quick! How many forehead wrinkles do you see?

It’s pretty amazing around here. Happy weekend!

Looks like we've made it

I have a feeling this will be a brain dump post.

Everyone! I did it! I survived my first week away from Emma. Thank goodness it was a short week, otherwise I may have ended up curled up in the corner gnawing my nails off (yikes, I’m dark today). Monday, I had my D4 orientation. First of all, I cannot believe I had my last, first day of school. This is my last year of dental school. As of mid 2015, I will officially be a Dentist. If you could see me right now, I’m doing my almost-a-dentist-last-year-of-dental-school dance. Cha, cha, cha!

Although I will be staying on a couple extra months to make up the time for maternity leave, I am looking at the home stretch of this whole DDS thing. CRAZY. I’m in 20th grade now guys. Of course, orientation was just a big ol’, “Let’s give them 2108390 items of information in one day, ready, set, go!” Why, thank you for that.

It was incredibly hard to leave Emma on Monday morning. Just call me Sophie. Choosing to return to school to finish my degree is the best decision for my family and myself in the long run, but man oh man, it was hard to get out the door. I felt bad for the person sitting next to me on the bus that had to watch this blubbery mess of a human being.

I got right back into the swing of things and saw a few patients this week. It’s kind of like riding a bike, I didn’t forget how to do dentistry and be in the clinic. It’s just a different animal trying to find time to pump. But I think I’ve got it figured out for the most part. Hopefully I don’t scare my colleagues with my milk and pumping supplies in our communal fridge. Sorry ya’ll.

Emma and I were practicing our selfies. She told me I was a weirdo. Please don’t run away from home.

Thank GOD ALMIGHTY for my momma. She drove up on Sunday and has been the key to my sanity, remember the whole curled up in the corner thing, well she’s helped me avoid that. She’s been sending me many photos, videos, and updates. Why yes, I would love to know how many times she’s pooped today! (completely serious on that one) Emma sure does love her Mamaw.

Last night, Grace and Brian invited us to Brian’s company’s suite at AT&T Park to watch the Giants game. Although they aren’t my team, (GO DODGERS!) we were thrilled to get to spend the evening in a suite watching America’s sport (‘MERICA). Paul and I enjoyed our evening of frivolity - first date night away from the baby!

I could get used to this.

I don’t have any patients today, but I’m going to go to school for a little while to catch up on some scheduling and paperwork business.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July! Say what?! I love this holiday. I become exponentially more patriotic. Where did I leave my pet bald eagle again? Paul, Emma, my mother, and I are going to take a train ride through the Santa Cruz mountains down to the boardwalk for some good old fashioned family time and 4th of July festivities. Oh beautiful

PSST, I am working on an incredible online collaboration with some amazing women, stay tuned for the deets! (Did I just say deets? What year is this anyway?)

What are your 4th of July plans? (If they don’t include singing patriotic songs at the top of your lungs, why even bother?) Have a happy and safe weekend!

Baby Emma | Two Months

TWO. MONTHS. YA’LL. It’s time for another trip down baby lane for Emma’s two months update.

Can we just start with how adorable this little pudding is? It’s getting out of control. I don’t know how much more I can take. So the little squash blossom turned two months old today. Is there such a thing as too many kisses? I think she’s ready to have me committed.

According to the doc, she’s good on the whole growing thing. She’s in the 90th percentile for height, the 75-90th percentile for weight, and 50th percentile for head circumference (not too large and not too small, Goldilocks would be proud). She stared at me with firey contempt after her two-month vaccines but thank God for an infant’s short attention spa- ooh look, something shiny

This has been an exciting month. Great news! She can now furrow her eye brows at me when I try to pose her for photos or tell her that she has to earn her keep with baby smiles. I guess the mother-daughter angst starts early.

So far, she’s taken a road trip, swam the Great Barrier Reef (aka a large-ish swimming pool), and loves blowing bubbles with her own saliva. She’s quite accomplished. Besides the endless eat-poop-sleep cycle, she has mastered smiling, cooing, gurgling, and quantum mechanics. She is also hard at work at learning to laugh, roll, suck on her thumb, and row crew at Harvard. So all-in-all we have a diverse schedule.

This next month’s goals are grasping, baby push ups, and making the perfect soufflé. Fingers crossed.

This month was pretty stinkin’ wonderful. We are getting to see her little personality come through; she’s a little spitfire. Parenthood is also pretty crazy. You never know what to expect. But that’s what I love about it. But to be safe I always keep extra onsies, wipes, and Chinese throwing stars in the diaper bag just in case.

She’s sleeping in the crib now and had her first through-the-night sleep, hallelujah! She loves being swaddled for sleep, otherwise she just slaps herself in the face – dang infant coordination. We also read books together every night. Her favorites so far are Goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Dante’s Inferno.

She is also beginning to amass a large collection of stuffed animals. They may be pulling a whole Trojan horse thing any day now, so if you are looking for gift ideas for Emma, I’d go with savings bonds.

As always, you can find us on Instagram. And check out all monthly updates here.

The end!
