Life

Awkward and Awesome

I have been wondering what to write lately. As you may have noticed, the old stomping ground of ye old blog as been very baby-centric. I have turned into one of those people - Hi my name is Samantha, and I am addicted to posting about my baby.

WELP, there you have it.

I promise you, I have other things on my mind and going on in my life. But what can I do when I have this ball of precious fluff and love living with me? I am overcome I tell you! Did I tell you that she started laugh… FOCUS SAMANTHA.

At the end of the day, all I can do is write what I know. However, I have decided to start another new series to get over my writing funk called Awkward and Awesome. I was inspired by one of my favorite blogs, The Daybook. So here it goes…

AWKWARD //

- That I have to use the phrase, “Hold on, I need to go pump” multiple times per day.

- I genuinely cannot remember how old I am. I’m twenty-something? I’m old enough to drink, that’s all I need to know.

- This lovely post-baby phenomenon: sneeze-pee.

- This frequent conversation in our household: “Remind me to remind you to remind me…”

- Looking into the window of the gym group yoga class while holding a doughnut.

- Trying to navigate through our tiny Trader Joe’s with a stroller AND a grocery cart. Please everyone, take your time.

AWESOME //

- Coming into a room and having Emma recognize me with a smile. Oh hey baby! I made you.

- Getting a kid in the pediatric dentistry department to sit still through the whole appointment.

- Discovering my new love of iTunes podcasts.

- My two brilliant friends, Cassie and Allisun, going back to school to start Grad programs.

- Realizing that Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes will be arriving soon.

- Sitting through an entire meal without it going cold.

I think I’m really going to like this new series.

Life 365 | Week 31

So this week’s Life 365 is all about Emma (but when is it not really). I swear, every day she is doing more and more and advancing so quickly. She’s killing me. Currently, I am convinced she is about to crawl. She’s doing all the motions just can’t quite get her body weight supported on her arms and legs at the same time. She kind of looks like a sea turtle, or a flapping sea lion, or a caterpillar, or a… and I’ve lost you.

Come back! Here are last week’s photos.

TWENTY-EIGHT Auntie Grace watched Emma on Monday for us. She only took 50 photos. I was a little disappointed. (HEHE. No really Grace, thank you so much for doing that.)

TWENTY-NINE You just can’t separate a girl and her seahorse. I am not sure Mr. Seahorse enjoys being slobbered on 24/7.

THIRTY “Yay, Daddy watched me this week! We only ate 27 pounds of candy and drove a motorcycle without our helmets!"

THIRTY-ONE I think she wants to drive this thing.

ONE Emma started pre-school on Friday. I think I had three heart attacks, two strokes, and one pulmonary embolism. But I survived. She waited until she got home to have the Mount Vesuvius of poops.

TWO "Mom, what’s this green stuff?” That’s grass Emma. I guess we are raising a city mouse now.

THREE Emma and I were rocking out to worship music at church yesterday. She kept getting startled when people started clapping.

Have a great week everyone!

At the moment

These last two weeks have been NUTS. With a capital N. Emma started rolling, laughing, and sucking her thumb. Be still my heart. Can she get some Peter Pan action around here and stay little and precious forever? You can find me curled up in the corner now.

I was also on my Oral Surgery rotation these past two weeks and I took out a whole bunch of teeth. I really enjoyed it! Taking out teeth is pretty freaking awesome. Yes I know, I sound like a weirdo.

Any who, here is what I am up to at the moment.

EATING eggs on eggs on eggs.

DRINKING lots of water. I’m parched all of the time. Sigh, breast feeding.

COOKING nothing lately. I have been so busy.

LOVING my new 1-liter Nalgene water bottle.

READING magazines! Does anyone still subscribe anymore?

NEEDING new pants for school.

WANTING to go on vacation with my family. Nearly anywhere will do.

ANTICIPATING our Lake Tahoe trip at the end of the month.

ENJOYING ice cream.

WONDERING what Emma thinks and dreams about.

WORRYING about my breast milk supply.

NOTICING how amazing and intelligent is our Emma.

FEELING grateful for my wonderful friends.

I am trying to work on feeling more positive and worrying less. Easier said than done I know, but it is something that is weighing on my heart.

Celebrations

I probably say this a lot, but can you believe that July is almost over? I feel like I am in a cartoon and we just keep flipping through the calendar pages. STOP IT.

As you know, our anniversary was last Wednesday and my 25th birthday was on Sunday. And no, I do not like to combine these two things. Paul knows they require two separate cards. You know how much I love cards.

For our anniversary, we went to one of our favorite places called Zero Zero. Their pizza is kick-you-in-the-face amazing. It’s crispy and thin and they are trigger-happy with the delicious extra virgin olive oil. Paul’s mom was still here with us so she watched Emma so we could hit the town. I got this DELICIOUS drink called a honey badger and we gorged ourselves. We didn’t exchange gifts. Having an evening together to celebrate was gift enough in my book.

Paul’s mom left on Friday evening so we had our first weekend without company in a month. I “reset” the apartment and put everything back in its proper place. Having our moms stay with us was incredible and I will always remember how much they helped us with Emma. But having some alone time was much needed (subtext: I basically wanted to be able to walk around in my underwear, ha). Although let’s be honest, once you have given birth to an audience of 15, you lose a little sense of modesty.

Sunday, we binged-watched Orange Is The New Black (holy crap, season 2 was nuts), went shopping, then had dinner at The Melting Pot. There is this adorable shopping strip a bit south of us and my darling husband knows the way to my heart. He bought me a purse and fed me a bucket of cheese. *tear*

Oh hey, I did my hair for the first time in months. I constantly felt like I had hair in my eyes.

This drink was DELICIOUS. I want to take a bath in it. It’s called the Honey Badger and it had bulleit bourbon, lemon verbena, and cocchi americano.

Oh HAYYYYYY. I call this look The Whites: teeth and eye edition.

Two words: pizza tower. Quick, can you spot what doesn’t belong in a pizza tower?

I believe in a thing called love, just listen to the rhythm of the heart (you sang that in your head, didn’t you?).

Emma got dressed in her birthday best. Aww, shucks Emma. The drool is a nice touch. Really gives it a little something extra.

Emma said she wanted to try the fondue. I told her she needed to be at least six months for that.

This is what happy looks like. I’m pretty sure an earthquake could go on and I wouldn’t notice if I had a bucket of cheese in front of me. It’s love. And it’s real.

It’s… I… Want… It’s just so beautiful. sigh

Hot summer days call for something refreshing. SuMMer stands for Moscow Mule.

Is your face exploding? Because mine is. This girl. This guy. SWOON.

I can’t even.

She was mesmerized by the bucket of chocolate fondue that just reached our table. This girl knows her priorities.

I am a firm believer in celebrating. Celebrate your anniversary, celebrate your birthday, celebrate a Tuesday. Just celebrate and be grateful for all you have.

This will be one for the books.

Life 365 | Week 30

Well what do ya know, today is my birthday! We have had an absolutely wonderful weekend and I am sad to return to reality tomorrow. At least I get to keep pulling out teeth on my oral surgery rotation. Yes, I know it is a little strange to get excited about pulling out teeth.

Here are last week’s photos.

TWENTY-ONE Woah there. I guess she took us seriously when we said we wanted a close-up.

TWNETY-TWO “So what you’re saying is that when we play peek-a-boo, you don’t actually go anywhere. Hmm, interesting…”

TWENTY-THREE Happy third wedding anniversary honey! Aren’t you glad you married such a catch?

TWENTY-FOUR Why do I feel like I’ve done something wrong? That’s a good stink eye Emma.

TWENTY-FIVE This girl. She’s too much.

TWENTY-SIX I don’t know what is bigger, my teeth or her cheeks.

TWENTY-SEVEN I feel like she should be on a poster for a musical starring opposite Doris Day and Howard Keel.

Emma turns three months old tomorrow! Stay tuned for her three months update. I will also be posting about our anniversary and my birthday later this week.
