Wedded bliss

Yesterday, we had the immense privilege of celebrating a beautiful couple on their special day. Our sweet Emma was their flower girl and we feel incredibly grateful that we were able to participate in their love.

We also discovered that Miss Emma can really shake her groove thing.

Many congratulations and blessings to the happy couple - Alyssa and Connor!

You get on with your bad self little one.

36/52 and Remembrance

I just finished my last week of school ever. EVA. FOREVERRRRR. I am still reeling from the reality of it all. I am sure I will do a little post-a-loo (<-- ew) all about my feels in the near future.

Until then, here is this week's portrait.

This morning I woke up to the sounds of morning birds, the rhythm of passing cars, and the brush of the morning breeze on my cheek. I didn't have to wake up at a specific time or gulp down my coffee before heading out the door. Emma and I kissed Paul goodbye and we leisurely ate some pancakes. I actually enjoyed my coffee and drank every last sip.

I did some morning stretches (thanks PBS) and Emma flitted in and around my legs. This

Mornings like this make the world go 'round. What a pleasant feeling it is to wake up surrounded by feelings of love and contentment.

But on this morning, 14 years ago, I was 12 years old and walking downstairs before my school day. My mother stopped me halfway down the steps - something tragic has happened - she whispered through choking despair. I will never forget that day. I will never forget the looks on my teachers' faces as the reality of terror permeated our halls. Lessons were forgotten. Radios were turned on their maximum volumes. We listened. We absorbed. We prayed.

A tiny piece of my childhood was chipped away that day and the reality of the horrors of human capability became apparent that day. My heart continually weeps for the immense loss felt by countless families for their loved ones.

,Hope prevails as men and woman came together. We did not break that day - we emerged from the rubble united.

"Even if the forces of darkness appear to prevail, those who believe in God know that evil and death do not have the final say."

- Saint John Paul II, Sept. 12, 2001

God bless the USA. God bless the world.

Beach please

So I don't know how it happened, but we have never taken Emma for a swim in the ocean.

GASP, WHAT, NO! THE HORROR.

We visited Pismo during the New Year but you couldn't pay me to dip my toes in the ocean at that time of year let alone whip out the swim diapers. (For Emma, not me.)

But we changed all that on Sunday, yay!

Our new neighbors have a little one two months older than Emma and they are becoming fast friends. They invited us to a local beach on Sunday and we jumped at the chance to get our feet wet.

Side note: It's ten billion degrees here this weekend and without AC it feels like my sweat is sweating.

Now I know you're all here for the photos.

Surprisingly, we got away with only a small amount of sand consumption and only took 1/3 of the beach home in her diaper. Small victories.

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

34/52

Emma is officially sixteen months today! WHATT.

So I officially fell off the face of the blog earth, or so it feels.

These past few days have been busy on these parts. I'm commuting (boo) to the city on my days in clinic and my dad got into town on Tuesday night (yay).

But any who, I am just popping in to give you this week's portrait, so no long winded ramblings from me. But I also couldn't choose just one this week so here's a few of my favs.

I'm boring today.

This little lady has been loving my shoes lately. I am obsessed with her pigtails too. Good job at being cute there Ems, keep it up.

Due to the exceptionally warm climate lately (and the fact that Miss Emma enjoys playing on our new deck) I bought her this ADORABLE sun hat. It has all that SPF goodness.

Emma's Lolo is in heaven. Emma has a new slave. Win-win.

Happy weekending. Love, Boring Samantha
